Solar Storage
Store your sunshine for when you need it most
Solar Battery Installations
We install top-quality solar batteries to store your excess solar energy to use later
We cover Woking, Guildford, Aldershot, Ascot, Bracknell, Wimbledon and other towns throughout the Surrey Hills. At Orchid energy, we believe that every ray of sunlight should go further. Our solar battery solutions let you store the clean energy that your solar panels generate during the day so you can use it later. When the sun goes down, during peak hours of demand (when the prices typically are higher on the grid) and more importantly during a power cut, you will not be without power. It’s smart, sustainable and simple. By keeping the energy you create, you reduce your reliance on the grid, lower your bills and make the most of your solar investment.
"Like the orchid that stores energy to bloom again, your solar battery quietly gathers sunlight and releases it when your home needs it most — naturally efficient, beautifully balanced."
Why install solar batteries?
Lower energy bills
Store excess energy that your panels produce during the day and use it when prices are highest — such as in the evening. You’ll buy less from your supplier and make the most of your solar investment.
Use more of your own clean energy
With a battery, much of your solar energy gets exported back to the grid. With a battery, you keep that power for yourself — using up to 80% of what you generate right at home.
Power when you need it most
Even when the sun isn’t shining, which let’s be honest does happen a fair bit here in the U.K., your battery keeps your home running smoothly. Perfect for dark winters, cloudy days or peak periods across the grid.
Reduce your carbon footprrint
By storing and using renewable energy instead of relying on fossil-fuel power from the grid, you cut your carbon emissions and help Britain move closer to net zero.
Energy independence
Take control of your electricity. A solar battery gives you more freedom from energy prices that keep going through the roof, and less dependence on the grid. You’ll have your own mini power station right at home.
Future proof your home
Keep your home future-proofed and ready for new technologies. Installing olar energy will make your home more resilient, efficient, and valuable in a world that’s moving toward clean energy.
Some key features to look out for when choosing your battery
1
Time of use charging
Import energy from the grid at lower rates! This is usally evenings and through the night when usage is low.
2
Backup
Some storage solutions allow grid back up, which allows the battery to draw energy from the back up if the grid fails. The system will need to be configured to ensure that this backup feature is always available so that the battery keeps enough capacity for essential loads. Our team will help you program this, so you don’t have to get technical.
3
Monitoring
Most batteries offer monitoring through access through an app or online platform. Monitoring will allow you to keep track of PV generation, battery charge and export to ensure you get the most from your system. To enable monitoring the system will need to be connected to your internet, through wifi or data cable.

4
Weight Considerations
Batteries are heavy, so you’ll need to consider wall or floor mounting, physical loads and handling.
5
Battery compatibility
All Systems need an inverter and a battery management system. Your battery will need to be compatible with whichever system you have chosen (AC Inverters or Hybrid Inverters). Systems can either be low voltage, or high voltage. Using non compatible products can be dangerous, invalidate warranties and be costly to replace. Our team of experts will advise you on the best battery to choose with your chosen system.

Frequently asked questions
A solar battery stores the extra electricity your solar panels generate during the day, so you can use it later — for example, in the evening or during a power cut. It helps you get the most out of your solar system by keeping your clean energy where it belongs — in your home.
You’ll get the best results when your battery works alongside solar panels, but it’s also possible to install one on its own. A standalone battery can store cheaper off-peak electricity from the grid and release it during peak hours, helping to cut your bills.
Yes — that’s exactly what it’s for. Your panels charge the battery during the day, and the battery releases that stored energy whenever you need it — even when the sun isn’t shining.
Decision on size is not an easy one, we recommend that you compare, evaluate and save! Choosing the lowest cost option upfront, can work out more expensive in the long run. Our team of experts can help you to calculate your surplus energy, the hourly energy generation throughout the year and the expected hourly energy usage of the property. This will help us to calculate what size battery would suit your needs the most.
A hybrid inverter connects the battery on the DC side (solar panels) in one combined unit, making it more efficient and best for new solar installations. An AC-coupled system uses separate inverters and connects the battery on the AC side (mains power), which is slightly less efficient but easier to add to an existing solar system.
A hybrid inverter is a smart power box that manages your solar panels, your battery, and your home’s electricity all in one place. In simple terms, it takes the power from your solar panels and decides the best place for it to go — to run your home, charge your battery, or send extra energy back to the grid. Because everything is built into one unit, it’s efficient and tidy, and it makes adding a battery to a new solar system much easier.
Some battery systems can provide backup power during an outage. If that’s important to you, we’ll recommend a model designed to keep essential appliances running even when the grid goes down.
Not much! Most domestic batteries are wall-mounted and about the size of a small suitcase or cabinet. They’re usually installed in a garage, utility room, or outbuilding. Please note that batteries are not permitted to be installed in lofts or under stairs.
In most cases, yes. We can retrofit a compatible battery to almost any existing solar system — giving you greater control and savings without replacing your panels.
Yes. Homes with solar and battery systems are more energy-efficient and appealing to buyers, especially as energy independence becomes a selling point in the UK market.
While there are currently no direct grants for batteries, you can benefit from the 0% VAT on solar and battery installations (extended until 2027) — and earn through SEG payments for any energy you export.
We operate across Surrey (including towns such as Guildford, Woking, Camberley, Godalming, Weybridge and Leatherhead), Berkshire (including towns such as Reading, Bracknell, Maidenhead, Newbury, Ascot, Windsor and Wokingham), Hampshire (places such as Winchester, Farnborough, Basingstoke, Fleet and Petersfield) and towns such as Epsom, Sutton and Wimbledon in South-West London.
