Domestic Solar Panels
Powering Your Home With Clean Energy
Welcome to Orchid Energy’s guide to domestic solar panels! In today’s world, where energy costs are rising and environmental concerns are forefront, more homeowners are turning to solar power as a sustainable and cost-effective solution. Discover how installing solar panels on your home can transform the way you power your life.
What Are the Benefits of Installing Solar Panels?
- Save Money: Say goodbye to skyrocketing energy bills. With solar panels, you can generate your own electricity, reducing or even eliminating your reliance on the grid.
- Environmental: By harnessing the power of the sun, you’re reducing your carbon footprint and helping to combat climate change. Solar energy is clean, renewable, and abundant.
- Energy Independence: With solar panels, you’re less vulnerable to energy price fluctuations and power outages. You can take control of your energy destiny and enjoy greater peace of mind.
- Return on investment: There are obviously many variables concerned in calculating ROI. Each installation is different, but there are ways of providing a guide of how quickly you can expect to see a return; on average, a well-designed installation will save you 70% on your annual electricity bill, a considerable saving over the course of the system’s life.
- Tax Incentives and Rebates: The government has frozen all V.A.T. on solar and battery installations until 2027. Some grants are also available to homes and businesses that meet specific criteria.
- Increased Property Value: Homes with solar panels are more attractive to buyers and typically sell faster and at a higher price than non-solar homes.
How Do Domestic Solar Panels Work?
Solar panels work by converting sunlight into electricity through the photovoltaic (PV) effect. Here’s a simplified breakdown of the process:
- Sunlight Absorption: Solar panels, typically installed on your roof or in your yard, absorb sunlight throughout the day.
- Electron Excitation: When sunlight hits the solar cells within the panels, it excites the electrons, creating an electric current.
- Electricity Generation: The electric current produced by the solar cells is converted into usable electricity, which can be consumed immediately in your home or stored in a battery system.
- Grid Connection: If your solar panels generate more electricity than you need, the excess can be fed back into the grid, often earning you credits or compensation from your utility company through net metering.
SOLAR PANEL FAQ'S
Here, you’ll find answers to the most common questions about solar energy and our installation process. Whether you’re curious about how we install solar panels, and the benefits they offer, our comprehensive FAQ aims to provide you with all the information you need to make an informed decision.
The first step will be to arrange a survey of your property. Following the survey, we will provide documentation that details all the factors required to obtain a formal and accurate quotation. If you approve the quotation we provide, based on your requirements we will schedule installation at your convenience.
No. Most installers require a survey and charge for this service. All our surveys are free of charge. If you instruct us to carry out your survey, you are under no obligation to ask us to install the solar PV panels. This means you can use the survey to get quotations from other installers, too.
The survey is quite comprehensive and includes the following:
- Roof orientation
- Rafter dimensions and spacing
- Check if there is anything in the immediate environment which would impede performance
- Geographical location
- Location for safety equipment to be installed
- Height of the roof
- Specific access for equipment that may be required to install your solar PV panels.
This is deemed one of the many benefits of having solar panels installed. You can set up a Smart Energy Guarantee (SEG) directly with your supplier. This agreement will allow you to start seeing a Return on your Investment (ROI) with the energy you export. The amount of ROI is dependent on several factors such as time of day you export (at certain times of the day energy will peak thus increasing your yield, more so in some geographical locations).
Absolutely. If this is something you wish to consider and to ensure a seamless integration, consider installing a battery for storage and the EV Charging Point at the same time. Our consultant would be happy to discuss this and the best option to suit your needs.
Yes, this is required to store the energy created from your Solar PV Panels. There are many options in the marketplace, which is something your consultant will be happy to discuss with you to ensure full compatibility with both your solar PV panels and your EV charger.
Orchid Energy Ltd is based on the border of Surrey, Hampshire, and Berkshire. Therefore, if you live in the south of England and would like solar panel installation, we can install your system.
